You are most likely to encounter snakes whenever you are hiking,
climbing, camping or even in your house. Here are a few suggestions of what to
do when you are faced with a snake.
- Stay calm.
- Freeze like a statue and then slowly back away.
- Do not attempt to kill it.
- Leave the snake alone and calmly back off as quickly and quietly and as far away as you can and let it have its space to slither away.
- Do not provoke the snake as angering the snake would result in a single response.
- Do not poke it with a stick or throw stones at it as you will be asking for trouble.
- Try to recognize the signs of a snake about to strike. The strike of a rattlesnake is faster than the human eye.
- Place a heavy blanket over it to clam it down. It will feel secure if it cannot see what is happening outside the blanket.
- If you have a water hose nearby, spraying it from a distance will persuade the snake to leave.
- Call on the experts to come and catch the snake.
