- Keep your distance from the bear.
- Walk away calmly and quietly. It will probably not bother you.
- Do not run as this will excite the bear to chase you.
- Do not climb a tree as some bears are excellent climbers.
- Do not try to wrestle with the bear. It is not like the one you see in “The Jungle Book”.
- Try to make yourself look bigger. It will usually frighten the bear away.
- Make loud noises to scare the bear away.
- Use pepper spray on the bear if it gets too close.
- Hit the ground immediately and curl yourself up into a fetal position, bring your knees to your chest to protect your stomach, protect your head with your arms and cover the back of your neck with your hands.
- If all else fails, just play dead. A grizzly bear will stop attacking when they feel there’s no longer a threat.
